As I've mentioned quite a few times, I spent last week in Santorini travelling around the tiny island with my parents. The weather was beautiful for October/November and I was so sad to leave. However, holidays do give great blog content (in my opinion) and I thought I'd give you another '10 things' post similar to my Athens post.
Our first hotel was this basic hotel, but it did have a beautiful pool and amazing breakfasts. The 'pool bar' also opened late for us on our first night as our flight landed late, and their pizzas were delicious!
2) Do: Megalachori Town
Megalachori is a traditional village (think blue shutters) which is easy to find our way around without a map, and has a lovely 30 minute walk or you could spend a bit longer by actually going into the church and eating some lunch.
3) Eat: Parea, Fira
Fira is the capital and, although parking can be an issue, the restaurants are varied and awesome. This one was just off the main road and had a windowed upstairs that was heated. The stifado was one of the best I've ever had!
4) Do: Akrotiri Town Excavation
Basically Pompeii but in a purpose-build outhouse. It was so interesting to look round and only 5euro per person.
5) Eat: Glaros, Akrotiri
A lovely woman runs this restaurant on the coast, and it's the perfect place to go before or after the excavated town. She's the sweetest lady and was so kind to our family.
6) Stay: Alisaxni Resort, Pharos
Our second hotel was equally as amazing as the first, with the beautiful Irene who cared for us so well and I would definitely recommend these apartments.
7) Do: Vilychada Beach
This black-sand beach was out of the wind, with a tomato museum and harbour to explore.
8) Eat: To Psaraki, Vilychada
This restaurant specialises in fish and was on the cliff at Vilychada. The greek salad was my favourite and there were spectacular views from the outside seating.
9) Do: Oia Town
Oia (Ia) is the best place on the island for that touristic feel (tat shops etc) and to see that 'classic' Santorini postcard picture.
10) Eat: Lucky Souvlaki, Fira
The best gyros on the island BY FAR - the men behind the counter sing along to Greek tunes and I could the chicken gyros every day for months!
Where was your last holiday?
Love, E X
